Eligibility of Medical Visa from Australia to India

Medical visa is only granted to those whose only purpose to travel to another is medical treatment.

Patient should seek treatment at a recognized/reputed/specialized hospital/healthcare center in India.

The patient is allowed with maximum two medical attendants to accompany him/her. They can be his/her family members or close associates.

Serious ailments like neurosurgery, joint replacements ophthalmic disorders, renal disorders, cardiac problems, congenital disorders, organ transplantations, radiotherapy, plastic surgery, gene therapy and others are of primary considerations in granting a medical visa. Important Documents Required for Indian Medical Visa Application

Read the instructions carefully and put your name and signature and submit with your other important documents.

One recent photograph of size 2 inch x 2 inch.

Face of the applicant should cover about 70 – 80% of the frame.

The photo should bear full face of the applicant with eyes open and front view.

The photo should not be older than six months.

The photo should be clear and well defined with a plain white or light colored background.

Proper brightness and contrast so that the natural skin-tone of the applicant is not tampered.

No shadows across or behind the face.

The applicant should look straight into the camera and should have a neutral expression with his/her mouth closed.

Even if head covering is worn by the applicant, it is to be made sure that her facial features are not obscured.

Non-prescription glasses are allowed if eyes are clearly visible. Sunglasses are not acceptable.

There should be no headphones or wireless devices in the photo.

Note : A photo booth is available at each of the centers of VFS Global in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. It is a self operating adult photo facility that could not be adjusted to take Infant, Children or Special Needs applicants photos.

Original and current passport with a minimum validity of six months from the date of application and two blank pages.

Appointment letter is required if the applicant visits the application center in person to submit his/her medical visa application. Scheduling or appointment is not required in case of courier or post.

Medical Advice Certificate from the country of residence advising specialized treatment to be carried out.

Form D :

All Australian or Foreign passport holders who were previously nationals of Pakistan, Afghanistan or DPRK have to fill Form D.

Applicants with the nationality of Iran, China, Macau, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Pakistan, Afghanistan and DPRK also must fill Form D whether they are the permanent residents of Australia or not.

In case the applicant has dual nationality:

If the applicant currently holds the nationality of Pakistan/Bangladesh/Sri Lanka and another country then he/she has to submit both the passports. Medical visa will be then granted on the Pakistani passport.

If the applicant is an ex-national does not hold a dual nationality in Pakistan/Bangladesh/Sri Lanka or in any other country, then a statutory Declaration duly attested by the Justice of Peace or Notary is to be submitted, stating that he/she does not hold a Pakistani nationality.

If the applicant currently is a New Zealand passport holder and is a permanent resident of Australia then he/she has to submit a copy of his/her Medicare card.

If the applicant holds a Czech Republic passport, he/she may apply in the following conditions:

He/she should stay in Australia for at least a year before applying.

His/her passport should be valid for at least a year from the date of application.

Present medical insurance for the entire period of his/her proposed stay in India.

If the applicant wants to apply for a medical visa through a foreign passport then a Vevo or Visa Grant Notice or Visa Sticker is accepted. For instance, if the applicant has a nationality of both Australia and UK wants to apply with his/her UK passport, a photo page of the Australian passport needs to be submitted.

Additional documents for a minor:

Copy of birth certificate of the minor.

Both parents’ passport copy.

Signature of both parents on the visa application form or letter of consent signed by both parents.

In the photo the child/baby should be awake, should look straight at the camera with his or her mouth closed.

His/her mouth should not be covered.

Both edges of the face should be clearly visible, no hair should fall across the eyes.

Other people or things like toys, blankets or chair backs should not be visible.

Online Application for Indian Medical Visa from Australia

Go to the website Indian Visa Online and click on Regular Visa Application.

Fill up the important credentials: the country you are applying from, high commission, date of birth, nationality, e-mail id, expected date of arrival in India and visa type. Enter the access code and click Continue.

Here are the High Commissions that you will choose according to your residential state:

The form consists of three pages in total. Fill up each page of the form with your correct details. Click Save and Continue at the bottom after you finish filling up each page.

Enter details of your family address and your profession or occupation.

Enter your medical visa application details regarding the hospital in your country and the concerned hospital in India, duration of treatment, no. of entries, purpose of visit, expected date of journey, expected time of arrival and departure, other information, details about SAARC country visit and reference.

If you travel to India for your treatment only through The Third Eye’s assistance but do not have a reference in India, then you can provide The Third Eye’s office address and contact number of patient relations as mentioned here.

You can upload your picture or paste it after you take out a print of the filled application form. If you want to upload your recent picture in the online form, click on Upload Photo.

After you click Save and Continue on the third page, a preview containing all your details will appear.

Go through them thoroughly. Click on Modify/Edit if there is any mistake.

Click on Verified and Continue if all the data entered by you are correct.

Go through the set of instructions that appear on the new window and press OK for final registration. To modify details click Cancel.

After clicking OK a window will appear where you would have to select the appointment date for submission of application at the Mission Counter. Click on Confirm the Appointment.

Another new window will open after you have clicked on Confirm the Appointment, bearing two options to Print or Save the online application. Save the online application. Do not print it immediately as you may lose the application by doing so.

Click on Print Registered Application to get the hardcopy of your application form.

If you haven’t uploaded your picture in the online application form, then paste it in the photo box on the first page. The photograph should be exactly the same size as the box (2inch X 2inch).

Put your signature on the rectangular box just below the photo box. Do the same in the box at the bottom of the second page.

Finally, submit the application form along with the required documents at the Mission Counter on the appointed date, mentioned at the right margin of the application, during the working hours (0830 hours – 1500 hours).

Applications are to be submitted in an Indian Passport and Visa Application Centre according to your jurisdiction and appointment time.

Medical Visa Processing Fee

The Indian medical visa from Australia to India is revised every year based on the prevalent Rate of Exchange. Only Master/Visa cards issued in Australia are accepted. For instance, the cost of an Indian medical visa with triple entries and a duration of 6 months would approximately cost 149 Australian Dollars. An average of 5 working days is taken to process medical visa that are applied in Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth.

A minimum of 45 days is taken for the nationals and ex-nationals of Pakistan.

Non- Australians from countries excluding Afghanistan, China, Macau, Taiwan, Hong Kong, DPRK, Iran, Pakistan may get their visa by the 10th working day.

A minimum of four weeks is taken for medical visa processing for non-Australians from Afghanistan, China, Macau, Taiwan, Hong Kong, DPRK, Iran and Pakistan.

In that case an official document is required by the concerned hospital authorities stating the ailment and the treatment procedure of the patient and the extra time required for his or her full recovery. One has to go to the FRRO office to apply for a medical visa extension.

FRRO

FRRO is the primary agency that controls all the regulations, the arrival and departure of foreigners in India. Anyone coming to India from another country has to register himself/herself in the FRRO office.

Medical Travel to India with E-Tourist Visa

E-tourist visa can be used for medical travel when short term medical treatments or check-ups are required. Here are the documents that are needed to apply for E-tourist visa.

PDF version of the scanned first page of the passport. The size of the PDF should be 10KB to 300KB.

Upload a recent digital photograph that should maintain the following criteria:

Size: 10KB to 1MB

The height and width of the photo should be equal.

Photo should have full face, front view and eyes open.

Center head within the frame. Head from top of the hair to the bottom of the chin of the individual should be prominent.

Background should be plain light colored or white.

There should be no shadows on the face or on the background.

The photo should not have any borders.
