The Dubai Health Authority (DHA)’s “Dubai In One Day” initiative is aimed at providing visitors with comprehensive health screening packages in the Emirate.
The screening packages, say DHA, will be convenient, quick and efficient and encourage preventive screening that is critical for early detection of diseases, especially lifestyle diseases. The packages are mainly for people in the 25-50 age bracket.
Medical tourists can select the health screening package based on their needs. The results will be provided within 24 to 48 hours. The screening time takes between two to six hours depending on the package selected.
A regular check-up will cost Dh800 (US$217), Dh1,400 (US$381) for the Executive Check-up, Dh2,900 (US$789) for a Comprehensive Check-up for males and Dh3,300 (US$898) for a Comprehensive Check-up for females.
Medical tourists can select general health screening, dental or ophthalmology packages that can also be completed in one day. DHA will continue to add more packages under various specialties.
Participating medical establishments include NMC Healthcare, Zulekha Hospital, Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Hospital, King’s College Hospital London, Aster Hospitals, Oris Dental Clinic, Dubai London Clinic and Specialty Hospital, Moorfields Eye Hospital, Medstar Specialty Centre and Prime Hospital Dubai.
The number of medical tourists who travelled to Dubai despite pandemic-related restrictions doubled in 2021, spending US$199 million on healthcare, according to the Dubai Healthcare City Authority (DHCA).
The DHCA is the governing body of the Dubai Healthcare City free zone that now includes 10 hospitals and 168 clinics. Its mission is to contribute to the development of the healthcare sector in line with Dubai’s goal to become one of the world’s top 10 healthcare destinations.
The authority recently published a white paper, “Emerging Opportunities In Middle East Healthcare”, analysing regional healthcare sector, with special focus on the GCC, highlighting opportunities for investors.
In the report, the DHCA predicts that healthcare spending in Dubai and the rest of the GCC region will continue to grow, posting a CAGR of 4.9% to US$99.6 billion in 2023 from US$86.2 billion in 2020. The growth will be led by the UAE and Saudi Arabia, which will account around 80% share of the total spending.
The DHCA also highlighted the resilience of Dubai’s healthcare industry. The Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), the UAE’s freezone dedicated to healthcare, contributed AED 2.8 billion (USD$762.3 million) to Dubai’s gross domestic product in 2021. The figure is forecast to grow to AED 3.4 billion by 2030.
The DHA has said it will continue to expand and develop the health sector with an aim of creating a dynamic, investment friendly sector that provides both residents and medical tourists with easy access to the highest quality of patient centred care across a wide range of medical specialties.
